Exciting times on Liping Mountain
SPEAKING of Anji in Zhejiang Province, many people would think of the bamboo forest there as it is the film place of Ang Lee’s Oscar-winning film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” However, our hiking trip started from a rarely known mountain called Liping Mountain.
We set out from Jiading on a rainy day and arrived at Liping Mountain around midnight. Some stayed at farmers’ houses and others pitched tents.
The next morning, we began hiking in the Liping Mountain through a new route chosen by our leader and local guide. It’s a big challenge for us since there were almost no roads at all and a number of water courses to cross. It’s also dangerous as some of our teammates were bitten by wasps and leeches and others got injured. However, all these difficulties were nothing as we helped each other.
After the hiking, we tried dropping from the bridge, which is an activity for entry-level hikers. It’s not difficult itself but challenges one’s courage to overcome a fear of heights. I was afraid at first and my legs were shaking. I finally made it with the encouragement of others.
On the last day, we went floating in the Longwang Mountain. We played in the river and everyone got all wet through. After lunch, we went home by bus, and back to our normal way of life.
