Clinics target common diseases
NANXIANG Hospital in Jiading has opened seven clinics to target common diseases that include high blood pressure, chronic coughs, childhood asthma and osteoarthritis.
A woman from Fangbang Town, who had been suffering from a persistent cough, had visited the neurology and respiratory departments of other hospitals many times but couldn’t get a treatment that was effective. But when she attended a clinic at Nanxiang Hospital she got the results she needed.
Zhou Jiaping, the hospital’s president, said there were many types of chronic coughs, including allergic, cardiac or triggered by the digestive tract. “It is very important to identify the cause and offer solution based on it,” Zhou added. He said the clinic had a complete set of effective treatment procedures and treatment programs.
For example, during the woman’s first visit, doctors confirmed her cough was caused by her digestive tract and soon a targeted treatment program was prepared.
The seven clinics let doctors take an overall approach when they focus on patients’ specific diseases, according to Gao Jie, vice director of Nanxiang Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
“A specialist usually focuses on his or her domain only which makes them unable to grasp the patient's condition in all directions. So it is hard for their treatment to achieve the best results,” Gao said.
In August, Nanxiang Hospital opened a clinic to cure all sorts of pain. The hospital organized doctors from different departments and other disciplines to make individual treatment plans for patients with complicated conditions.
