Belt and Road not a problem for these children

CHILDREN at Shuangding Road Kindergarten are learning about the Belt and Road initiative.

This might seem a bit complicated for preschool children but the teachers can explain.

They tell the children stories like “Once upon a time, there was a road from China, across Central Asia to Europe. That is the Silk Road!

“People led camels loading goods, walking in the desert. They made deals with businessmen from different countries along the journey.”

One child asked whether the Belt and Road initiative was like sharing good things among people.

“Similar but not the same,” a teacher answered. “The initiative is very much like the Silk Road but on a much larger scale and there will be more goods circulating around the world.”

The teacher and a number of children sat around a handmade world map laid on the floor. Above the map, is the model of a fully loaded dragon boat set to sail.

Teachers started telling the kids news stories in their lessons from May and developed a game to help them learn.

Now the children can recognize national flags, different customs, and the products of countries involved in the initiative through the game that’s a bit like Monopoly.
