Auto races, cultural shows a big part of Jiading shopping tourism festival

MORE than 60 events have been scheduled for the 2016 Shanghai Jiading Shopping Tourism Festival, which will be inaugurated on September 14 at Malu IMIX Park.

Among the many activities to feature at the festival will be Anting Motor Racing Season, Nanxiang Steamed Buns Culture Fair, Shanghai Confucius Culture Festival, Huating Rural Joy Festival, Cao’an Shopping Tourism Festival and lots of themed events.

The 2016 Oasis AEMI World Clown Carnival will be one of the highlights, featuring over 500 clowns who have participated in the AE World Clown Festival — the largest such event across the globe.

Interactive performances will be staged at Poly Grand Theater, Shanghai Auto Expo Park and elsewhere, creating a celebratory atmosphere among the visitors.

In addition, there will be activities related to automobile culture, local history as well as rural life.

The Anting Motor Racing Season will be flagged off on Friday with a host of motor-racing events, exhibitions, entertainment and food.

Motor-racing fans can look forward to five events at the Shanghai International Circuit, namely the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) — 6 Hours of Shanghai, the 2016 China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) & World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), the 2016 Skoda Heros China Bicycle Racing Series, the China GT Championship as well as the China Racing Track Carnival.

As for exhibitions, the China Auto Salon and a vintage cars exhibition will be held at the Shanghai Auto Expo Park — perfect for visitors keen to learn about cars and auto culture.

And to top it all up, there are plans for a beer festival, a concert, a triathlon and interactive reading.

The ancient town of Jiading is one of its biggest appeals. During the festival, residents and tourists will be able to immerse themselves in the town’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

The 10th Shanghai Nanxiang Steamed Buns Culture Fair will host a slew of activities such as banquets, exhibitions as well as performances to showcase the food culture as well as the traditional arts and crafts of Nanxiang Town.

The 2016 Shanghai Bamboo Culture Festival will be held at Guyi Garden, while the Confucius Culture Festival is another signature event of the tourism festival.

Mock shows of traditional Chinese wedding, Mid-Autumn Day gathering and children’s coming-of-age ceremony will highlight the centuries-old Confucian culture.

If you like to enjoy some serenity in the countryside, head to Maoqiao Village in north Jiading. The village boasts natural rivers and roads, green environment, country-style houses and advanced infrastructures.

Visitors can go fishing, cantaloupe-picking, or to a garden party or a music fest during the Huating Rural Joy Festival.

Those looking for souvenirs, head to the Cao’an Shopping Tourism Festival, where online promotion will combine with offline activities.

There are more themed events lined up, such as the Shanghai Jiading Interactive Theater Festival.

Troupes from Germany, the United States, Canada and other countries will stage interactive plays. There will also be a talent show dedicated to Jiading women, focusing on their modern lifestyle and qualities.
