Paradise for outdoor sports lovers
LAST month, nearly 5,000 runners took part in the half-marathon, 8km health-run and 2.5km family-run which kicked off at the gate of Dongping National Forest Park on Chongming Island.
With a race route that stretched through Beiyan Road and Dongping Park, runners were treated to views of calm lakes, orange fields and local villages.
Mou Zhenhua, who finished in one hour and 12 minutes, was the winner of the men’s half-marathon race, while Jin Lingling was the fastest woman with a time of one hour and 23 minutes.
“It is so enjoyable to run through the countryside with trees along the roads and lakes. This area is full of oxygen and gave me a lot of energy,” said Mou. “I am so happy after finishing this run.”
Eco-friendly Chongming is a haven for runners, cyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts. The island offers over 400 kilometers of cycling lanes, which wind past attractions such as the Xisha Wetland, Dongping Forest Park, Chenjia Town and the Chongming New City area. These lanes are built with rest stations every four to eight kilometers.
Before the end of this year, 350 kilometers of jogging and running paths will be opened.
