Work underway to expand district’s green space

A number of parks and greeneries in Changning District are currently being constructed, with work expected to finish by the end of next year.

The Linkong No.1 and No.2 parks and the 50-meter long greenery along Suzhou Creek, the 400-meter tree belt on the Outer Ring Road, the second phase of the Zhongxinjing Public Green Space and Xinjing Park will cover an area of 420,000 square meters in total and jointly form an ecological corridor to provide the public with great riverside views.

The parks and greeneries will be connected through a non-motorized traffic system. Rivers in the west including Xinjinggang, Xinyupu and the western section of Suzhou Creek will also further expand their green space. Here’s a detailed look at the spaces that will soon be enlivening public life in Changning.

Linkong No.1 Park occupies an area of 99,000 square meters and features the theme of “green space plus music.” It has a stage and a lawn of 8,000 square meters. Magnolia trees are widely planted at its banks along Suzhou Creek. Events set to be held at the park include a magnolia festival and summer concerts on the lawn.

Linkong No.2 Park is nearly the same size as its sister. A wide variety of trees including camphor, magnolia, Ligustrum lucidum and ginkgo are planted here. The park also has nursery plants and a wetland which make it an ideal destination for flower festivals, seasonal events and leisure activities. The park has opened to the public.

Greenery along Suzhou Creek

The green space covers an area of 23,000 square meters. It is among the best spots for visitors to appreciate spring and autumn views. The green space plus extreme sports area and promenade make the site a great place to host sports games and weekend flea markets.

With its eastern edge neighboring Waihuanxi River and western edge next to Xupugang, this 400-meter-long tree belt covers an area of 140,000 square meters. Wisteria, bauhinia and crape myrtle are widely planted here. Beneath the forest is an underground space of 40,000 square meters which contains facilities including a swimming pool, an indoor stadium, stores selling sporting goods and a parking lot. The place is qualified to hold citizen games.

Zhongxinjing Public Green Space

This project neighbors Xinjinggang and occupies an area of 36,000 square meters. The green space features plum, lotus and water lily. A museum and an exercise yard for theater fans make the place suitable for cultural activities.

This park next door to Xinyupu covers an area of 22,000 square meters and features maple and ginkgo trees. Folk culture activities and festivals are routinely held here.

The park has opened to the public.
