Plenty to see and do as Autumn Art Festival returns

THE Hongqiao Autumn Art Festival, a major event in the cultural calendar of Changning District, is in full swing until early December. Now in its 14th iteration, this year’s festival will feature more than 100 performances, 20 seminars and a dozen exhibitions.

The district will also carry out exchange activities with 15 countries and regions.

The festival kicked off on September 26 with a stunning concert by the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and Shanghai Philharmonic Chorus to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Long March.

Five days before the concert, 25 decorated floats cruised through Xingyi Road in Changning as a prelude to the celebrations. These floats had previously joined the opening ceremony parade for this year’s Shanghai Tourism Festival on September 10.

Also around this time, World Music Shanghai 2016 brought performing artists from Turkey, Poland, the United States and Mauritius to perform various musical forms for local audiences. Outdoor concerts were held at New Hongqiao Central Garden on September 24 and 25.

Performances by both domestic and overseas artists will be held on the lawn of Zhongshan Park, as well as kindergartens in the district, Linkong Economic Zone and Hongqiao Art Center. This series of activities will run through November 12.

Also for the festival, exhibitions like the “2016 Shanghai Annual Invitation Exhibition of Pastel Painting,” “Inchon-Qingdao-Shanghai International Watercolor Exchange Exhibition,” “Czech Art Exhibition” and “Austria Fashion Art Exhibition” will be held at the Liu Haisu Art Museum, Shanghai Hongqiao Contemporary Art Museum, Changning Library, Changning Folk Culture Center and Minsheng Art Museum.

Seminars and speeches will take place at district libraries and art centers. Apart from the regularly held ones, series seminars on topics like psychology and drama will be held in business districts, office buildings, residential communities and the Children’s Library.
