Airline’s new experience center spreads its wings

CHINA Southern Airlines has relaunched its customer experience center in Linkong as Changning policy makers focus on repositioning the economic zone around Hongqiao International Airport for a key role in the development aviation services.

Previously located in Xintiandi in downtown Shanghai, the center was the first of its kind established in China by Asia’s largest airline in terms of both fleet size and the passengers carried.

At the center, customers can see the latest products and services from the Guangzhou-based airline as well as its meticulous attention to every detail of the air travel experience.

The main purpose of the facility is to provide customers with the best services possible, said Tao Shengdong, a group leader at the center.

“The center sets the stage to engage in a dialog with customers and build upon their knowledge of our products and services,” Tao said. “It’s one of many tools we use to show that China Southern Airlines is the right answer.”

The center is also unique, Tao said, because of the compelling and dramatic way it showcases the leading airlines’ offerings.

A first-class seat is next to the entrance for demonstration. The sleeper seat is electronically controlled, and lets users fully recline over its 2-meter length. It is also equipped with a large high-resolution screen and a complimentary minibar.

The suite-like pod uses dividers to ensure passenger’s privacy, while also offering easy access to the aisle at the same time. On board, first-class passengers can enjoy award-winning food whenever their stomachs desire.

In addition to the five-star-hotel-like cabin demonstration, the center will launch a new entertainment service that uses VR headsets to provide passengers a unique 3D experience in an interactive 360-degree cinematic video format.

The service will put customers into an immersive virtual world featuring popular destinations in the airline’s network. They can further experience the latest China Southern Airline products as well as blockbuster movies.

A cockpit simulator will also be installed at the center.

The Customer Experience Center offers guests soft drinks and snacks and has dedicated space for reading or relaxing.

The center is equipped to serve guests in wheelchairs and children traveling alone. Physically handicapped military personnel or police officers can enjoy 50 percent off the regular ticket price.

Other customers with special needs can be accommodated.
