A treasure trove of historic items just waiting to be explored

AT Shanghai Cohesion Project Museum, people will learn about the history of the Cohesion Project. Pictures, documentaries, photos and exhibits are on display to explain the project.
The Changning-based Huayang community, where the museum resides, is the birthplace of the Cohesion Project, which dates back to the 1980s.
In 1986, Shanghai government launched practical projects and strived to solve issues closely related to the people. The urban landscape as well as the living standards of the residents were greatly improved because of it.
A number of major civil engineering and urban renewal projects kicked off construction. Millions of residents said goodbye to their run-down settlements. Millions of workers bid farewell to a lifetime of employment amid the strategic adjustment of state-owned enterprises.
In such a case, grassroots cadres at Changning-based Huayang community visited local residents door to door, learned about their living conditions and helped solve difficulties.
Community cadres visited poor elderly, needy families, relocated residents, laid-off workers and cancer patients regularly. They provided people in need timely assistance and took care of them which further closed up the ties between the Party and the people and the relations between cadres and the masses.
In April 1994, the organization department of the CPC Shanghai committee studied the “Cohesion Project” that Huayang community conducted and systemically summarized its practices and experiences.
After that, the organization department issued circulars requiring grassroots Party organizations throughout the city to learn from and promote “Huayang Experience” to further improve the experimental work of the “Cohesion Project.”
The objective of the “Cohesion Project” is to establish the working mechanism of Party organizations at grassroots level and close up ties between the Party and the people.
Changning District unceasingly increases investment in people’s livelihoods, gradually improves the layout of public service facilities, further expands the coverage of its services to let the people share the fruits of development and get more benefits.
