Chicago quake funds to help schools
2008-7-23
THE Sichuan Earthquake Relief Fundraising Committee in Chicago announced yesterday that it will use the money collected to help build two schools in Sichuan Province.
Chinese Americans formed the committee after the May 12 earthquake and have raised 2.65 million (US$388,900) funds, Xinhuanet.com reported today.
After discussions with the Sichuan Province government, the committee decided to support the re-building of the Beijunping Middle School in Pengzhou City and the Qingxi Elementary School in Qingchuan County.
It will set aside the remaining 650,000 yuan as an education fund for needy students, the report said.
The director of the committee Hu Xiaojun said they chose the two schools because they were in areas severely affected by the quake.
