Yu Zhengsheng replaces Xi as Shanghai Party chief

XI Jinping will no longer serve concurrently as the Party secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, who will be replaced by Yu Zhengsheng, according to a CPC Central Committee decision.

Xi has been elected member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, at the first plenary session of the 17th CPC Central Committee early this week.

Yu was appointed concurrently as the new Party secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of CPC and no longer acts as the Party secretary of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the CPC.

At the same time, Luo Qingquan, governor of central China's Hubei Province, becomes the province's new Party chief.

Yu, ethnic Han, is a native of Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. He was born in April 1945. He joined the CPC in November 1964 and began working in August 1963. He graduated from the Department of Missile Engineering, Harbin Military Engineering Institute, majoring in automatic control of ballistic missiles with a university education.

Yu was an alternate member of the 14th CPC Central Committee, member of the 15th through 17th CPC Central Committees, and Political Bureau member of the 16th and 17th CPC Central Committees.
