World hotel congress

THE 53rd Congress of the International Hotel & Restaurant Association (IH&RA) as well as the International Hotel Industry Congress will be held in Hangzhou from October 13 to 15, China Hotel Association chairman Han Ming said this week.
Representatives from the UN Environment Organization, the World Tourism Organization, and the International Organization for Standardization will join nearly 1,000 professionals from around the world at the convention with “Hotel & Restaurant Industry: East Meets West” as the theme.
IH&RA is the only international hotel and restaurant organization recognized by the UN and it is the biggest organization in the industry in the world.
There will also be an international summit on hotel/restaurant brand building in Belt and Road countries, an Internet summit for Chinese hoteliers and restaurateurs, an exhibition of Internet technology for hotels, and a culinary contest.
Last year, China received 138 million overseas travelers, 3.8 percent more than in 2015. Restaurants reported total turnover of 3.58 trillion yuan (US$526 billion), up 10.8 percent from 2015. The figure rose 11.2 percent to 2.18 trillion yuan in the first seven months of the year.
The gross income of Hangzhou restaurants hit 54.1 billion yuan in 2016, up 8.6 percent from 2015, and expanded 10.4 percent in the past seven months, 6.2 percentage points more than the same period of last year.
