Warning to bike-share firms
LOCAL urban management authority summoned nine bike-sharing operators on Monday and asked them to make sure all bikes are parked inside marked areas or face penalties.
The move comes after widespread complaints about chaotic parking of bikes in public areas, particularly at scenic spots and transport stations.
A survey by Zhejiang University of Technology found that 96 percent of Hangzhou residents are annoyed by random parking and have asked for the government to intervene.
There are about 418,000 shared bikes in Hangzhou, 81,000 more than a month ago.
More than 23,000 shared bikes have been taken away for random parking. Their operators could face fines of up to 20,000 yuan for blocking sidewalks and obstructing traffic.
The city will mark designated parking areas for shared bikes near hospitals, schools, government agencies, stadiums, museums, libraries, shopping malls, and scenic spots.
The first batch is already ready for use this month.
