Underground construction
HANGZHOU is seeking public opinion on the construction of 12 large-scale underground complexes for commercial, leisure and public service purposes.
The projects include Wulin Square, Qingchun Square, Fuxing International Commercial Square, Huajiachi Commercial Complex, olympic Sports Expo Center and Phoenix Park.
The underground spaces will be used for underground transportation, infrastructure, and disaster prevention. They are prohibited from being used for residential, medical, education, or senior care purposes.
People can submit opinions or advice on the official website of the Hangzhou municipal government, at www.hangzhou.gov.cn.
Hangzhou plans to develop 5 million square meters of underground spaces every year between 2016 and 2020, according to a municipal plan disclosed earlier.
By 2020, underground spaces in Hangzhou will total 82.6 million square meters, a large portion of them underneath Yan’an Road and around the West Lake area. They will include 87 subway stations.
In the first half of the year, Hangzhou finished building 3.4 million square meters of underground spaces.
