Temple reconstruction
THE Haichao Temple in Shangcheng District, which was once as famous as Lingyin Temple in the west of the city, will be restored together by 2020, according to the official WeChat account of Hangzhou government.
With a total area of 8.5 hectares, the Buddhist cultural area is made up of temple compound and commercial blocks. The construction of Haichao Temple Cultural Area is expected to be started next year and completed in 2020. The Haichao Temple was thriving during the reign of the emperor of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). At that time there were more than 300 buildings in Haichao Temple. The temple was badly destroyed in wars. All that was left was the Tianwang Hall, some houses that stored Buddhist scriptures and rooms for monks.
