Scenic spots in the pipeline

HANGZHOU will add another UNESCOworld heritage site and two more 5Ascenic spots during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), according to the city’s tourism officials.

Hangzhou currently has two world heritage sites — the West Lake and the Grand Canal — and three 5Ascenic spots: West Lake, Qiandao Lake, and the Xixi National Wetland Park.

The city plans to build a 5Ascenic area along the Grand Canal in 2017 and tap local tourist resources such as Longjing tea plantations, the Imperial Kiln, Alibaba headquarters, the China Academy of Arts, Hangzhou silk, and traditional Chinese medicine.

Last year the city hosted 124 million visitors, earning 220 billion yuan (US$32.84 billion) in tourism revenue. By 2020, it aims to receive 184 million domestic visitors and 4.35 million international travelers.
