Quake hits Lin’an County
A 4.2-MAGNITUDE earthquake jolted the mountainous Lin’an County, west of Hangzhou, at 2:25am Wednesday morning, but no casualties have been reported so far.
The China Earthquake Networks Center said the epicenter was in Changhua Town.
Shortly after the quake, contingency measures were activated in the area, but Zhejiang Province Earthquake Bureau experts said aftershocks of a 4.0-magnitude quake are unlikely.
Some residents said they were woken up by the tremor and found the windows shift. Others said they were unaware of the quake and did not feel it.
Records show that the worst earthquake struck Hangzhou in AD 929, causing destruction to some houses. Experts believe it was a 5.25-magnitude quake.
