Infrastructure upgrades
HANGZHOU will build 550 kilometers of urban roads between now and 2020, expanding its road network to 3,541 kilometers, according to its newly-published urban construction plan.
Meanwhile, the Hangzhou-Fuyang and Hangzhou-Lin’an urban rail lines will be put into service as well.
To ease parking woes, the city will add a total of 300,000 parking spaces in urban areas, including 50,000 around Metro stations, bus terminals, and tourist spots.
Forty “sponge city” projects will be carried out across Hangzhou, covering 187 square kilometers. “Sponge city” is a concept that involves absorbing rainwater with green spaces and storage facilities and mitigating flash floods during heavy downpours.
According to the plan, the “sponge city” program will cover 20 percent of Hangzhou’s area in 2020.
