Divorces on the rise
LAST year, 21,033 Hangzhou couples filed for divorce, 10.3 percent more than in 2015, while 63,260 couple married, a drop of 6.5 percent year on year, the Hangzhou Civil Affairs Bureau said.
The bureau attributed the rise in divorce to women seeking independence, greater social acceptance of divorce, and well-off people pursuing spiritual life.
About 65 percent of new couples are in the 20-29 age group, 20 percent in 30-39 age group, 7.6 percent in 40-49 age group, 4.3 percent in 50-59 age group, and 2.3 percent in over-60 age group.
The number of remarriages increased by 240 last year to 4,644 couples. Marital counseling and mediation rooms, run by charity organizations, can be found in marriage offices in the city.
People born in the 1970s care about the parents more than themselves. People born in the 1980s try to make a balance between their own families and their parents. Those born in the 1990s are concerned about spousal relationship, some experts said.
