Direct cargo flight

A BOEING 747 aircraft carrying high-tech digital gadgets, clothes, equipment, accessories and daily necessities from Chicago, USA, landed at Xiaoshan International Airport on Tuesday, the first direct-cargo flight between Hangzhou and the USA.

It was also the largest cargo flight to land at Xiaoshan International Airport with a maximum load of 112 tons.

After the launch of direct flights by Alaska Airlines, it now takes 15 hours to transport goods between Hangzhou and Chicago. Previously, the cargo was routed via Hong Kong or Shanghai and would take three days.

Flights for the new cargo route will be available three times a week, which is expected to add a cargo handling capacity of 20,000 tons a year. Xiaoshan Airport plans to launch a second cargo flight from Hangzhou to a destination in USA in March next year.
