Celebrating Yueju opera

Xiaobaihua Yueju Opera Troupe, led by director Mao Weitao, toured seven cities in Australia, New Zealand and Tonga from July 22 to August 10 to promote traditional Yueju Opera culture.
The troupe performed before a total of 6,000 people, presenting classic plays including “The Butterfly Lovers,” “Injustice Done to Dou E”, “Peacock Flies Southeast,” “Peony Pavilion” and “Madam White Snake,” starring renowned Yueju Opera stars such as Chen Huiling, Cai Zhefei, Wei Chunfang, Zhang Yiqing.
“Our performance was popular in Sydney, Melbourne and Wellington,” said Zhou Guoqing, the head of the troupe. “The troupe’s overseas promotion combining basic training classes, master classes and stage performances achieved a lot.”
