CCTV airs achievements
China’s national TV station CCTV highlighted Hangzhou’s achievements when it introduced Zhejiang Province in the first episode of a special series before the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
In the report, Hangzhou drivers were praised for stopping at zebra crossings to let pedestrians through. The Hangzhou government had pulled down the walls around the scenic West Lake 15 years ago to allow visitors to enjoy the view of the lake. That meant the city lost more than 25 million yuan as admission fees a year.
However, the tourism revenue in Hangzhou reached 250 billion yuan last year, or 10,000 times the lost admission. In addition, free Wi-fi, free public bikes and free sports facilities have been set up around West Lake for visitors to have a better experience.
At Dream Town in Yuhang District, there are 750 fund companies with 170 billion yuan of venture capitals and 3 square kilometers of refined decorated office spaces.
Founded two years ago, Dream Town is a business hub of more than 1,100 tech startups and 10,600 technology professionals.
