Anti-drone technology

THE Xiaoshan International Airport in Hangzhou announced that it had adopted a new technology to keep civilian drones from its flight paths.
The “electronic fence” technology can cut signal connection between a drone and its remote controller when the unmanned aerial vehicle gets within 10 kilometers from the airport. The drone will be forced to return to its launch site.
The measure comes after an online video clip in January showed a drone flying close to an aircraft about to land at the airport.
As more and more civilian drones are used for pest control, environmental monitoring and geographic survey, they are also causing safety concerns across the country.
Anew regulation requires a drone weighing over 250 grams must be registered under the real name of its operator from June 1.
Airport and public security authorities will release information about the areas around the airport restricted to civilian drones.
