Rail freight down

CHINA’S national rail freight volume fell significantly last year amid an economic slowdown, official figures showed yesterday.

Railway cargo fell 11.9 percent year on year to 3.36 billion tons, following a 3.9 percent slide in 2014, the National Development and Reform Commission said.

Freight in the last quarter of the year fell 13.4 percent, after a 13.9 percent dip in the previous three months.

By comparison, rail passenger traffic rose 10 percent in 2015, while air passenger numbers grew 10.4 percent.
