Downloads of Chinese books set to increase

BEIJING-BASED iReader and Amazon China are tapping overseas markets to introduce top Chinese-language books to global readers, Shanghai Daily learned yesterday.

IReader has attracted more than 2 million downloads of English titles and some Russian and Korean titles in the overseas markets. These titles are translated from popular history and e-novels. iReader has become one of top ranking reading apps in Apple’s App Store in 60 countries and regions.

In 2017, iReader will translate more Chinese-language titles into mutli-languages for global readers who can access them on App Store and Google’s Play Store.

Amazon also said recently that it would promote Chinese literature overseas through its Kindle online book store.

Amazon will work with CCTSS, a state-level translation and broadcasting center, to select and translate the best Chinese contemporary fiction and offer them to English readers.

So far, Amazon Publishing has worked on 18 titles from renowned Chinese authors like Chen Zhongshi and Jia Pingwa.
