Sinopharm subsidiary to launch third-party payment services

SINOPHARM Health Solutions, a subsidiary of China's largest pharmaceutical distributor Sinopharm Group Co Ltd, is planning to launch a third-party payment service that will make health care payments easier for users.

HealthPay, as the payment platform is called, will allow patients to pay medical treatment fees via their smartphones and other mobile devices, instead of waiting in a long queue in hospitals, the company said today.

Sinopharm has signed an agreement with Bank of Communications to develop the service. It plans to connect with five banks by the end of the year.

To collaborate with the national health insurance system and commercial insurance companies, users will also be able to make claims for covered medical expenses via the application, the company said.

Four public hospitals, 30 foreign-funded hospitals, 100 private hospitals, 300 clinics and 10,000 pharmacies have agreed to accept payments through HealthPay, Sinopharm said.

It aims to promote the application to 100 public hospitals, 150 foreign-funded hospitals, 500 private hospitals, 10,000 clinics and 20,000 pharmacies this year.
