Emerson eyes big on China
The US-based manufacturing technology company Emerson is extending millions of dollars of investment in China, hoping to benefit from green economy, industrial process control and household appliances.
With strength in applications such as heat-pumps, nuclear facilities, industrial flow control systems and smart buildings covering safety surveillance as well as automated heating appliances, Emerson is confident to explore further in the Chinese market.
“The Chinese market now contributes more than 10 percent to Emerson’s global sales,” said Edgar M. Purvis, the firm’s chief operating officer. “Having more than 40 branches in China, among which 22 established for production and others as research centers, we hope for better performance in this market.”
One bet of the firm is heat pumps as an alternative to boilers. Using water, heat-pumps are considered environmental friendly. Nuclear facilities are another option in green economy. According to Purvis, 25 nuclear reactors in China are applying Emerson’s heat and process control systems. In addition, Emerson has eyed the opportunity in the Internet of Things to develop sensors.
Emerson introduced scroll compressor about 30 years ago which is one of the most efficient engines of air conditioners supported by automotive operation control. Nowadays the company has enhanced its database and automotive technologies to provide systematic solutions for commercial and residential applications.
The company invests US$500 million on research and development annually and in China they initialed one third of the patents the company acquires globally.
