Elevator test tower

OTIS Elevator Co will build the world’s tallest above-ground elevator test tower in Shanghai that will see new elevators used in buildings worldwide.

The 270-meter-tall tower is expected to be operational at the end of 2018, Philippe Delpech, president of Otis, said yesterday at the 2016 World Elevator & Escalator Expo in Shanghai.

But he didn’t say when construction of the test tower will begin.

The four-day exhibition at the National Exhibition and Convention Center will end on Friday.

The tower will test new elevators developed by Otis worldwide before they are used in buildings and shopping centers. The tower will be able to test new advanced elevators and systems as technology evolves.
