Samsung debuts Note 7 domestically

SAMSUNG released its eagerly-awaited Galaxy Note 7 flagship model in the domestic market yesterday as the world’s biggest smartphone maker aims to boost market share in China.

The phalet, featuring iris-scanning log-in, will compete with Apple’s next-generation iPhone set to be released next month and high-end models from domestic firms including Huawei, Oppo and ZTE.

The 5.7-inch model costs from 5,988 yuan (US$907) and buyers could pre-order on JD.com and Samsung outlets from yesterday.

Samsung is banking on Chinese consumers liking the Galaxy Note 7 due to its big screen, iris recognition for top-level security and improved electronic stylus that supports Chinese calligraphy.

The iris scanner offers an alternative to fingerprint ID.

The top three smartphone brands in China are Huawei, Oppo and Vivo, said market research company IDC.
