More Internet security incidents
THE average number of Internet security incidents detected in China’s mainland and Hong Kong over the next 12 months added more than 5 times from a year ago thanks to increasing efforts from companies to tackle and detect the issues, according to a latest report.
There were an average of 1,245 security incidents in mainland and Hong Kong over the past year, compared to a total of 6,853 globally, according to the PwC's Global State of Information Security report. Last year, only 241 security incidents were recorded.
Companies in mainland and Hong Kong reported a rise of 10 percent of financial losses due to cyber crimes form the previous year with the average amount of US$2.63 million, higher than that of the global average level of US$2.55 million.
"We're witnessing security attacks from all angles, and the industries facing the most impact include consumer, retail, and technology," said PwC China Risk Assurance Partner Chun Yin Cheung.
Security incidents in mainland and Hong Kong are also more targeted at customer records, with respondents reporting a 64 percent rise in this kind of security incidents, compared to that of 35 percent rise at the global level.
