Mideast's biggest IT fair kicks off in Dubai
THE biggest IT exhibition in the Middle East started here Sunday with a special focus on cloud computing, robotics and the internet of everything.
It's the 35th edition of the annual Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX), the biggest IT fair in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.
Declaring the "year of innovation," the GITEX Technology Week 2015 will be held under the theme of "The Internet Future of Everything," revolving around the pillars of innovation, connecting cloud, big data, mobility and security
Major global brands of information and communication technology (ICT), including Huawei, Microsoft, Intel, HP and Germany's software group SAP, will present their latest products and innovations at the fair.
"From new solution demonstrations to world-renowned thought leaders, visitors to GITEX Technology Week 2015 can discover the latest innovations, forge new partnerships and network with the top businesspersons and industry experts from the region and worldwide," said Trixie LohMirmand, senior vice president at Dubai World Trade Center.
This year's GITEX is held against the backdrop of major mergers and acquisitions across the global ICT scene in both hardware and software sectors.
On Oct. 16, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group increased its stake in video platform Youku Toudu, the biggest rival of YouTube, from 18 percent to 100 percent for US$4.5 billion.
Last week, US PC producer Dell agreed to acquire network storage giant EMC Corporation for US$67 billion. On Saturday, electronic payment systems provider Wincor Nixdorf from Germany said it is in talks with US rival Diebold which offered to buy the German firm for 1.7 billion euro (US$1.92 billion).
Some 150,000 visitors from 150 countries are expected at the five-day GITEX Technology Week, which will be attended by 3,700 firms from 62 countries and regions.
