LeEco unveils new smartphone model

LEECO, a flagship company on the Nasdaq-style ChiNext growth-enterprise market, yesterday said it has sold 17 million smartphones since it entered the handset market in May last year.

The firm, with interests in smart TV, online video, sports and taxi hailing, launched a new handset featuring Qualcomm’s latest processor Snapdragon 821 and rapid charging technology.

The new LeEco Pro 3 models, with a starting price of 1,799 yuan (US$270), will be available from next Wednesday, according to Feng Xing, LeEco’s head of smartphone business.

LeEco has sold more than 17 million smartphones already, all costing over 1,000 yuan.

As part of its plan to expand overseas, LeEco began selling phones in Russia last week, with the United States the next market on tap, Feng said, adding that Thailand and India are also on the company’s radar.
