Huawei posts 30% revenue growth
RIDING on booming smartphones sales and global expansion, Huawei Technologies yesterday posted a 30 percent revenue growth in the first half of 2015.
In the first six months, China’s biggest telecommunication equipment maker’s revenue reached 175.9 billion yuan (US$28.3 billion), a 30 percent growth year on year. The profit margin was 18 percent in the period, according to the Shenzhen-based company.
Huawei, whose handset sales surpassed that of Xiaomi in the same period, expects to sell more than 100 million handsets this year, with popular models like Mate 7 and P8 that targets business consumers, and low-cost Honor brand models for young people, said Yu Chengdong, head of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group.
“We sold more than 10 million handsets every month since May. We expect to achieve the annual target (100 million sales) before the end of 2015,” Yu said.
Until June, Huawei sold 50 million phones globally, compared with 34.7 million by Xiaomi, another leading China brand smartphone vendor.
Both of them are private firms which may have different methods for calculating sales.
Huawei gained 4G and 4G Plus network orders from both domestic and overseas markets, including Britain.
Huawei, through top mobile carriers China Mobile and Softbank, plans to offer 4.5-generation mobile communications technology which has 10 times faster connection speed and higher network capacity compared with 4G. It is earmarked for commercial use in China and Japan next year.
The TDD Plus technology, developed by Huawei and partners, is an evolution of TD-LTE 4G technology adopted by China Mobile with more than 800 million users.
Huawei is expected to post a revenue of 400 billion yuan this year, a 38 percent growth from 2014, industry insiders said.
