HP offers 3D printers, services in China

HEWLETT-PACKARD Inc, the world’s biggest maker of printers, officially started offering 3D printers and related services in China yesterday.

HP plans to team up with domestic partners to set up 50 3D printing centers in Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Chengdu and Guangzhou. The US company also has partners offering materials and related services in China including a Sinopec subsidiary, HP said.

China will become a “front-runner” of the 3D printing industry. By 2018, 3D printing will be a mainstream technology adopted by large and established document printers, contract manufacturers and electronics vendors, according to US-based research firm International Data Corp.

Revenue in China’s 3D printing industry is likely to be 10 billion yuan by 2020, five times that in 2013, analysts said.

The new technology is in line with the Made in China 2025 strategy of boosting innovation and transformation in traditional industries, they said.
