Domestic version of Fitbit, smart glass to be launched
CHINA’S top information technology firms are tapping into wearable computing sectors to launch Chinese versions of Google Glass and Fitbit at affordable prices.
Lenovo Group Ltd, China’s No. 1 personal computer maker, announced yesterday that it would launch a smart glass with Chinese language and fit it with local Internet environment. Lenovo is expected to start taking pre-orders of the M100 glass next week. It costs 8,000 yuan (US$1,290).
Google Glass, the world’s most well-known glass, cost US$1,500 but it is only available to developers and not available in China. It is being sold for more than 10,000 yuan or above on the Chinese auction website like Taobao.com.
ZTE, China’s biggest public telecommunication equipment maker, also showed off its first smart wristband Grand Band in Hong Kong yesterday, without providing any price details.
Beijing-based Xiaomi said on Tuesday it would launch a smart wristband costing only 79 yuan each, one-tenth of the price of Fitbit and Jawbone UP and featuring similar healthcare functions.
Shanghai-based Geak Electronics said two weeks ago it will launch its second-generation smart watch in September.
