Body set up to develop industrial smart parks

Eighteen leading banks, telecommunication and technology companies yesterday founded a smart park association to develop industrial parks in Shanghai.

Part of the smart city project, the Shanghai Smart Park Association includes China Telecom, China Minsheng Banking Corp and Beidou Navigation. The smart parks, such as the Shanghai Pudong Software Park, will deploy latest technologies such as Big Data, cloud computing and the Internet of Things.

The Shanghai Pudong Software Park plans to add high-definition cameras and sensors as part of the Internet of Things technology. Companies in the park will be able to tap its high-speed broadband and wireless network to access more cloud computing services, which allow people to edit, transfer or share data or files online through various devices, according to the park operator.

The association is expected to boost the development of the local information technology industry, industry insiders said.

China plans to develop smart cities and parks by 2015, which fuel economic development through information consumption and construction of next-generation networks, US-based research firm International Data Corp said.
