Baidu Q3 sales up 52%, profit rises 27%

CHINA’S largest search engine Baidu said revenue in the third quarter rose 52 percent from a year ago to 13.5 billion yuan (US$2.2 billion) with the proportion of sales from mobile devices reaching 36 percent.

Profit in the three months ended September 30 were up 27 percent from a year go to 3.88 billion yuan, the company said in a stock exchange filing today.

Online advertising contributed 13.4 billion to the overall income, with the growth rate of 51.8 percent.

Overall mobile traffic of Baidu now accounts for 36 percent of total traffic, compared with that of 30 percent in the second quarter.

The company forecast a 45.4 to 49.6 percent annual rise in revenue for the fourth quarter this year.

Baidu has been driving sales income from smartphones and mobile devices as Internet users are gradually moving away from desktop computers.

Earlier this year, Baidu said it would start to offer companies an “official service account” to allow easier access to services ranging from restaurant booking to movie tickets buying to catch up with rivals Tencent and Alibaba to benefit from the transaction demands of Internet users.
