4G tech has great potential in professional markets, experts say

4G technologies used in professional sectors, such as security system in Shanghai Disneyland and management system for Tianjin port, will create a huge market by 2018, industry officials said today during an industry conference in Shanghai.

Revenue of the PMR (professional mobile radio) broadband market will hit US$5 billion globally in 2018, with a 40 percent annual growth rate between 2014 and 2018, Thomas Lynch, a researcher with US-based research firm IHS, told the second eLTE (enhanced LTE) Solution Alliance Summit 2014.

LTE (long term evolution) broadband network will replace current low-speed network by 2017 due to huge demand for video and picture applications in public security and transport, military and industrial sectors, Wang Tao, president of the wireless product sector of Huawei Technologies, said during the conference.

“It will change everything in public security, transportation, energy and finance industries,” said Wang.

Through partners like Siemens, Huawei has got 66 eLTE contacts by the third quarter. Its clients include Shanghai Police, Port of Tianjin and UK emergence communications network.

For example, Shanghai is upgrading police cars with real-time video upload and emergency handling process recording features, according to Shanghai Sanji, which also provides security system for Shanghai Disneyland.
