3M gets exposure on Alibaba’s B2B platform

3M today announced the launch of a top brand pavilion on Alibaba’s B2B platform 1688.com, the first of its kind on the site, as the industrial and consumer goods company seeks innovative means to target distributors and retailers.

Denise Rutherford, president of 3M China, said “The partnership with Alibaba is a brand-new venture for 3M to leverage this fast evolving market in e-commerce.”

“We don’t view the launch of the top brand pavilion on 1688.com as a conflict or jeopardy for our business with existing traditional distributors as we seek every means possible to partner with distributors through multiple channels,” she added.

The 1688 top brand pavilion would help brand owners to effectively manage their pricing product offerings for different types of distributors around the country.

The site would provide 3M’s product information as well as top distributors in different parts of the country, as the Minnesota-headquartered company seeks to leverage the 1688 top brand pavilion to grow the presence of online distribution channels and expand its advantages in online sales.

1688.com said it seeks to help more manufactures and industrial companies to build a more comprehensive and organized product and merchant system.

Similar deals with ABB, Stanley and Ingersoll Rand would be soon to follow in the near future.

The address for 3M's top brand pavillion is 3M.1688.com.
