Three-way meeting of finance ministers

CHINA, Japan and South Korea will hold a three-way meeting of their finance chiefs and central bankers this week in Australia, one of the highest-level contacts in recent years, Japan’s finance ministry said yesterday.

The meeting will be held on Friday in Cairns on the sidelines of talks involving finance ministers and central bank governors from the Group of 20 nations, the ministry said.

“The meeting is likely to cover macro-economic issues and possible financial cooperation in the region,” a ministry official said.

The three countries traditionally hold talks during the annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank, but they have been called off in the past few years amid political discord.
