FTZ firms told to get addresses right

COMPANIES based in Shanghai’s free trade zone have been advised to write addresses in contracts where litigations can be served in case of disputes.

The latest guidelines were released yesterday by the FTZ court, which is part of the Pudong New Area People’s Court.

The FTZ court has heard more than 4,700 commercial disputes ever since the zone was established.

Over 20 percent of those cases encountered difficulties in serving the litigation documents as the addresses were unreachable.

They had to be notified via announcements, which takes a longer time, the court said.

Cao Kerui, chief of the FTZ court, said: “It also leads to big waste of legal resources.”

Liu Yun, a legal department manager with Ingram Micro China, said the new measures will reduce the legal costs, time taken for lawsuits and also increase efficiency.
