Ad spending to rise 7.9% to US$80b

CHINA’S advertising expenditure is set to grow 7.9 percent to US$80 billion this year, up from an earlier view of a 6.6 percent rise, a report said yesterday.

Annual advertising spending in 2017 is estimated to grow 7.8 percent to US$86.3 billion, WPP’s media investment arm GroupM said in a report.

The report cited continuing urbanization and solid consumer confidence for the continued growth.

Worldwide, advertising spending is predicted to rise 4.4 percent from that of 2016 to US$547 billion in 2017.

GroupM expects digital advertising in China to grow 29.5 percent this year and slow to 21.5 percent next year.

China won’t grow by double-digit rates as a modest growth is the norm, the report added.

The US is another growth contributor whose advertising spending is expected to add 3.2 percent this year. Forecast for 2017 was cut to 2.6 percent due to the weak global economy.
