State Grid gets new chairman

STATE Grid Corp of China has named a new chairman to take charge of its operations.

Kou Wei, previously vice president of China Huaneng Group, will succeed former Chairman Liu Zhengya who has retired after leading State Grid for 13 years.

Kou, 55, was responsible for Huaneng’s hydroelectric power business from 2002 to 2009.

Huaneng led China’s state-owned electricity generation companies in revenue last year, generating 268.1 billion yuan (US$40.3 billion). China Huadian Corp, China Guodian Corp, State Power Investment Corp and China Datang Corp posted incomes from 169 billion yuan to 200 billion yuan last year.
