Fewer employers plan to expand headcount, survey shows

FEWER employers in China plan to expand recruitment in the first quarter this year as booming Internet business model is squeezing job opportunities for senior candidates, online recruitment portal 51job.com said yesterday.

A total of 82.3 percent respondents said they plan to recruit more in the first quarter than they did last year, down 3 percentage points from the survey for the first quarter last year, 51job.com said after collecting questionnaire from 16,978 employers.

Another 6.1 percent respondents said they will cut hiring due to cost control and contrasting businesses, the report said.

Employers have noted declined demand for senior office workers and technicians as booming use of the Internet has changed requirement on talent.

Internet, e-commerce, computer software and financial sectors are leading recruitment and 75 percent of the respondents said they are finding workers with less than two years experience.

A record of 91.1 percent employers said they will remain or expand recruiting university graduates in the first quarter, indicating potential relief of pressure for young job hunters, the report said.
