Chinese employers to hire more in 3rd quarter, survey shows

MORE Chinese employers will expand recruitment in the third quarter, and demand for junior workers outpaced that for middle-level management, online recruitment portal 51job.com said today.

The website found 88.5 percent respondents said they will hire more staff in the third quarter than they did in the same period of last year, nearly 10 percentage points more than the survey last year, according to a survey covering 21,173 employers conducted between April and June.

More than 70 percent respondents said they plan to hire more workers with less than 2 years’ experience, and employers are willing to offer between 15 and 20 percent salary increase for workers at the front service and production line.

“Middle-level management and professional experience is losing its value under technology development and frequent merging and acquisition among companies,” said Jennifer Feng, researcher of 51.job. “Their positions are not secured and salaries have been rising slower.”

Compared with the second quarter, demand for inexperienced workers rose 3 percentage points, while demand for middle-level management and middle-level specialists fell 4 percentage points and 3.1 percentage points respectively, the survey found.
