Shanghai to revive 42 time-honored brands

FORTY-TWO brands in Shanghai which were certified as the city’s first batch of time-honored brands will be the focus of a government plan to revive them, the Shanghai Commission of Commerce said yesterday.

Covering a wide range of sectors from food, household appliances, pharmaceuticals to retailing and clothing, these brands include Shanghai Pharma, Lifeng Food, Warrior shoes, Zhangxiaoquan scissors, Butterfly sewing machine, Baromo clothing and Bright Dairy.

Under the plan, the Shanghai government will encourage the owners of these brands to publicise more about their history and share resources such as marketing and finance in a bid to revive the time-honored brands, the commission said.

“We need a coordinated strategy,” said Shang Yuying, chairwoman of the commission. “These time-honored brands are selected to present the glorious history of Shanghai’s commerce, and they will continue their mission into the future.”

The companies received their certification at the four-day China Time-honored Brand & Famous Brand Expo, which opened at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center yesterday.
