Retailers to get support to meet online rivals
THE government will encourage traditional retailers to embrace new technologies and business models amid fierce competition from e-commerce players, the Ministry of Commerce said yesterday.
In the first nine months of this year, the total retail value jumped 10.5 percent from a year ago and online retailing surged 36.2 percent, making up 12 percent, the ministry said.
“We’ve noticed that some of the retailers and department stores are shifting their business focus and trying new models to push forward omni-channel strategy,” ministry spokesman Shen Danyang said.
“We encourage retailers to lift their service level for shoppers and promote the successful models so that others can learn from them,” he added.
