Macau’s costs up for tourists as TPI climbs
MACAU’S Tourist Price Index for the second quarter of 2015 gained 0.82 percent year on year to 134.61, the minimum increase in 12 years, according to figures released yesterday by the city’s Statistics and Census Service, also known as DSEC.
A slight rise in the year-on-year figure of Macau’s TPI in the second quarter of 2015 was attributed to rising charges for restaurant services and dearer prices of local food products.
A notable increase was seen in the price index of entertainment and cultural activities (+5.74 percent), restaurant services (+5.13 percent), and food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+4.5 percent), according to DSEC statistics.
But the price index of accommodation shed 2.82 percent year on year due to lower room rates for three and four-star hotels.
The DSEC latest data showed that TPI for the second quarter of 2015 fell by 7.92 percent quarter on quarter. The price index of accommodation declined 27.13 percent, and that for transport and communications dropped 4.4 percent on account of lower hotel room rates and airfares after the Lunar New Year.
