Ecuadorian mangos tap into Chinese market through etailors

ECUADORIAN mangos are now entering the Chinese market through e-commerce platforms.

Pro Ecuador, Ecuador's Institute of Export and Investment Promotion, announced its cooperation with the Ecuadorian mango association ¨FUNDACIÓN MANGO¨ and two large Chinese online platforms, Yiguo.com and Tmall.com.  From now on, Chinese people can buy the genuine Ecuadorian mangos on these two websites.

Pro Ecuador Chief Commercial officer Diego Vega announced the cooperation at a press conference held on Tuesday

“After 13 years of negotiation, mango for Ecuador finally gets into the Chinese market,” Vega said.

“Mango is known as an exotic fruit and the one from Ecuador is one of the best compare to the other countries that are producing this fruit,” he added.

The mango promotion campaign will last until Friday on Tmall, and November 30 on Yiguo.

Ecuadorian mangos are known for its tropical flavor and aroma, thanks to the unique Ecuadorian landscape. They can be red or yellow depending on the variety.

There are approximately 6,500 mango hectares planted in Ecuador, and the varieties produced in Ecuador are : Tommy Atkins, Kent, Ataulfo, Haden and  Keitt.

Ecuador is ranked among the 15 top mango producers of the world. About 84 percent of the mango productions in Ecuador are exported. Mango farming began in Ecuador back to 1980. The fruit is considered as one of the finest in the world because of its exotic flavor.  The fruit is known by North Americans, Europeans and Japanese as the "tropical apple".

The sector exports an average of 42.480 tons of mango annually. Among the main destinations of Ecuadorian exports are: USA, Canada, Netherlands, Chile and New Zealand.
