Recall hits over 38,000 Cadillacs

SHANGHAI GM, the joint venture between US carmaker General Motors and Chinese automaker SAIC, has initiated a recall of more than 38,000 Cadillacs due to a glitch in the braking system.

The recall involves 38,328 Cadillac XTS sedans made between October 2012 and July 2014, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, China’s quality watchdog, said in a statement on its website yesterday.

The recall is to fix a problem in the electronic braking system that may prevent vehicles from accelerating or moving in extreme cases.

This notice followed its recall of about 32,000 Buick Encores, which will start on September 30, due to a faulty seat belt.

Shanghai GM has filed more than 10 recall reports in China so far this year.
